Robert Kunzli


Robert Künzli studied in Toronto and at the Opera Studio of the Munich Staatsoper and made his first stage appearances in Mannheim, Lübeck and at the Aalto-Theater Essen. From 1996 to 2002 he was a member of the Stuttgart Opera, where, among other rôles he undertook the parts of Tamino, Narraboth, Alwa, Prince Shouysky in Boris Godunov, Jim Mahoney, and Loge. Guest engagements have taken him to Munich, Hamburg, Dresden, Helsinki, Toronto, the Savonlinna Opera Festival, Montpellier, the Paris Opéra, and New York Carnegie Hall, where he undertook the title-rôle in Schubert’s Fierrabras. Earlier appearances in his career were as Fritz in Schreker’s Der ferne Klang at the Berlin State Opera, Alwa at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin and at the Vienna State Opera, Florestan and Tannhäuser in Leipzig, Iorestan and Max in Der Freischütz at the Berlin Komische Oper and Gregor in The Makropoulos Case in Düsseldorf. In Stuttgart he appeared as Hoffmann in Les contes d’Hoffmann.
