Pavla Vykopalová


As it was written by the Opera News magazine, Pavla Vykopalová is one of the most remarkable Czech singers of the present time. Her wide and large repertoire contains vocal music of all genres and styles from the Baroque opera up to the contemporary compositions of the 21st century.

Her opera repertoire includes among others also such great roles as Mozart’s Donna Elvira, Fiordiligi, Vitellia, Pamina, and the Countess, Dvořák’s Rusalka, Smetana’s Mařenka, Puccini’s Mimi, Liu and Lauretta, Leoncavallo’s Nedda, Offenbach’s Antonia, Martinů’s Pascaline and Julietta, Janacek´s Jenůfa, Káťa and Míla, Verdi´s Desdemona, Bizet´s Micaela and Johann Strauss’s Rosalinda.

Mozartova Donna Elvira, Fiordiligi, Vitellia, Pamina a Contessa. Dvořákova Rusalka, Smetanova Mařenka, Pucciniho Mimi, Liu a Lauretta, Leoncavallova Nedda, Offenbachova Antonia, Martinů Paskalina a Julietta, Janáčkova Jenůfa, Káťa a Míla, Verdiho Desdemona, Bizetova Micaela, Straussova Rosalinda, atd.

Having a permanent engagement with The Janáček Opera in Brno, Pavla is a regular guest of the National Theatre of Prague and the Prague State Opera as well.

She performed in Janáček´s Jenufa at the Théâtre du Châtelet of Paris, in Leonard Bernstein´s Kaddish Symphony in Prague, Frankfurt and Tokio under the conductor Eliahu Inbal. She has also sung the role of Jenůfa on the stages of France Rennes, as well as the title roles of Káťa Kabanová in Denmark and Rusalka in Budapest under the conductor Ivan Fischer.

Accompanied by renowned Czech and foreign orchestras, Pavla has sung in many oratorios and sacred works under such outstanding conductors as Jiří Kout, Jiří Bělohlávek, Leopold Hager, Eliahu Inbal, Iván Fischer, and others.

In collaboration with famous music companies, such as Multisonic, Orfeo, Rosa and Supraphon, she also recorded several compact discs.

In the years 2006 and 2012 Pavla was nominated for “Thalia“ award for her title role of Mařenka in Smetana´s The Bartered Bride as well as for her title role of Mila in Janáček´s Fate, being finally awarded that special prize in the year 2016 for her title role of Káťa Kabanová, directed by the Canadian director Robert Carsen.

A great success has brought her also the role of Clémence in the contemporary opera Love on Distance by Kaia Saariaho staged by the National Theatre of Brno.
