Marin Alsop

Marin Alsop is one of the foremost conductors of our time, internationally recognised for her innovative approach to programming and audience development, and for her deep commitment to education.

She is the first and only conductor to receive a MacArthur Fellowship, and the first woman to serve as the head of major orchestras in the United States, South America, Austria and Great Britain.

Alsop is the chief conductor of the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, artistic director and chief conductor of the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra, principal guest conductor of London’s Philharmonia Orchestra, music director laureate and OrchKids founder of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and principal guest conductor of The Philadelphia Orchestra. She is also chief conductor of the Ravinia Festival, where she leads the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s annual summer residencies, and the first music director of the National Orchestral Institute and Festival at the University of Maryland. In 2025, Alsop made her long-awaited debut with the Berlin Philharmonic, becoming the first US-born woman to conduct the storied orchestra.

Alsop’s discography comprises more than 200 titles, including a John Adams collection with the Vienna RSO for Naxos, which received a 2025 GRAMMY nomination for ‘Best Orchestral Performance’.
