Alfreda Hodgson
The British mezzo-soprano Alfreda Hodgson (1940–1992) studied singing at the Northern School of Music in Manchester and was soon to be heard as a soloist with all the major orchestras in the UK.
She worked with Otto Klemperer, Lorin Maazel, Bernard Haitink, Seiji Ozawa, Andrew Davis, Fruhbeck de Burgos, Simon Rattle, Claudio Abbado and Colin Davis, among others.
She has performed in the USA and Canada, among others with the symphonic orchestras of Chicago, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Toronto and Detroit.
Her concert repertoire has ranged from Johann Sebastian Bach to Benjamin Britten, from symphonies (Ludwig van Beethoven’s Ninth) to Arnold Schoenberg’s Gurrelieder and Felix Mendelssohn’s Elijah.
