Ileana Tonca


Ileana Tonca is from Romania and studied with Georgeta Stoleriu at the National University of Music in Bucharest. She won several singing competitions, and appeared in many cities in Romania and on tours in Germany, Austria, Italy and France. Since 1999, she has been an ensemble member at the Wiener Staatsoper, where she débuted as Jemmy (»Guillaume Tell«). Other roles here include Barbarina and Susanna (»Le nozze di Figaro«), Papagena (»The Magic Flute«), Zerlina (»Don Giovanni«), Woglinde (»Das Rheingold«, »Götterdämmerung«), Woodbird (»Siegfried«), Gretel (»Hansel and Gretel«), Clorinda (»La cenerentola«), Echo and Naiade (»Ariadne auf Naxos«), Sophie (»Der Rosenkavalier«), Zdenka (»Arabella«), Adele (»Die Fledermaus«), Elvira (»L’italiana in Algeri«), Lisa (»La sonnambula«), Nannetta (»Falstaff«), Oscar (»Un ballo in maschera«), Marzelline (»Fidelio«), Ännchen (»Der Freischütz«) Adina (»L’elisir d’amore«), Sophie (»Werther«), and Xenia (»Boris Godunov«). Ileana Tonca also performed in Opera for Children productions (including »The Dream Eater«, »Peter Pan«, »Bastien und Bastienne«, »Aladdin«, »35. Mai«, »Pinocchio«, »Undine«, »Pünktchen und Anton«). In 1999/2000 she received the Eberhard-Waechter-Medaille promotional award.
